NSE Urges Elizade University Engineering Graduates to Drive Nigeria’s Development

In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Elizade University, Prof. Sunday Adeyemo, encouraged the graduates to contribute to national development and never stop learning.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has called on the newly inducted engineering graduates of Elizade University, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State, to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s development through innovation, integrity, and professionalism.

The NSE, established in 1958, is the umbrella body for all practising engineers in Nigeria and plays a vital role in promoting engineering excellence, technological advancement, and ethical standards. It also oversees the induction of graduate engineers from accredited institutions into professional practice.

Speaking at the induction ceremony of the university’s 8th set of engineering graduates for the 2024/2025 session, the President of the NSE, Engr. Margaret Oguntala, represented by the Chairman of the Akure Branch, Engr. Oluwaseun Adeyeye, charged the inductees to stay updated with emerging technologies and global best practices.

“As engineers, we must be willing to think outside the box, challenge conventional wisdom, and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems,” Oguntala said.
“Collaboration and networking are vital in our profession. Build strong relationships with your colleagues, mentors, and industry leaders.”

She congratulated the new engineers and urged them to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity while striving to make a positive impact in their communities and the wider society.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Elizade University, Prof. Sunday Adeyemo, encouraged the graduates to contribute to national development and never stop learning.

“Engineering is more than a career; it is a calling to create, solve problems, and improve the quality of human life,” Adeyemo said.
“Your degree comes with a profound responsibility—to innovate with integrity and to place humanity at the centre of every design and decision.”

He emphasized that the rapidly evolving technological landscape demands lifelong learning, creativity, and collaboration from engineers who wish to remain relevant.

Also speaking, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dare Adetan, highlighted the growing complexity of global challenges—from infrastructure to energy and climate change—and urged the graduates to keep learning and engaging with professional bodies.

“To remain relevant, you must stay curious and embrace innovation. Join any NSE branch wherever you find yourself and keep interacting with senior engineers,” Adetan advised.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the graduates as they officially joined the professional ranks of Nigeria’s engineering community.
