Veteran broadcaster, diplomat, and elder statesman, Dr Christopher Kolade, has passed away at the age of 92.
His family announced his death in a statement issued on Thursday, confirming that the revered public figure died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the statement read in part.
Born on December 28, 1932, Dr Kolade led a distinguished career spanning media, diplomacy, academia, and public service. He was widely celebrated for his principled leadership, integrity, and contributions to corporate governance and national development.
Fondly referred to as “Nigeria’s Ambassador of Ethics,” Dr Kolade served in several key positions during his lifetime, including as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, and Pro-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University.
He was also a former Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s broadcasting standards and ethics.
Tributes have begun pouring in from across Nigeria, with many describing him as a moral compass, mentor, and exemplary statesman whose life embodied selfless service and dedication to nation-building.
