Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has joined global well-wishers in celebrating award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who turned 48 on Monday.
In a tribute shared on his social media platforms, Obi described Adichie as a “literary Amazon” whose works have inspired generations of Nigerians, Africans, and readers worldwide.
“Chimamanda has blossomed into a true literary giant, whose writings enrich global literature while uplifting humanity. She has used her extraordinary gift to tell our stories with dignity and raise new generations of storytellers,” Obi wrote.
He praised her for her contributions to literature, feminism, and cultural discourse, adding that her writings and workshops continue to shape young minds.
“Through her writings and literary workshops, she continues to shape young minds, encouraging them to dream boldly, think critically, and wield words as instruments of truth and transformation,” he said.
Chimamanda Adichie, a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, is celebrated for globally acclaimed works such as Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah. Her storytelling has not only spotlighted Nigerian history and culture but also earned her recognition as one of the world’s most influential literary voices.
Obi also recalled Adichie’s humility and connection to her roots.
“I was especially moved when she returned to her alma mater and reconnected with her teachers, even from her primary school days. In that simple yet profound act, she reminded us all that the journey forward is strongest when anchored in gratitude to the past,” he wrote.
The former Anambra State governor prayed for her continued wisdom, joy, and strength in the years ahead.
Adichie, who publicly endorsed Obi during Nigeria’s 2023 presidential elections, remains a prominent voice on issues of identity, gender, and social justice.
