The President of the Initiative for Leadership Development and Change, Ugochukwu Nnam, has described Enugu State as the safest state in the South East region of Nigeria, following a recent assessment visit.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, the civil society leader commended the state’s government for implementing advanced security infrastructure that has dramatically improved safety across the state.
Nnam particularly highlighted the Enugu Security Trust Fund, which aims to raise over N20 billion to bolster security efforts. He noted that the widespread installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems equipped with facial recognition and vehicle identification technology is significantly enhancing surveillance capabilities.
“The Enugu Security Trust Fund is doing wonders in the security of lives and property,” he said. “CCTV cameras are extensively installed almost everywhere in Enugu — it’s glaring for the blind to see.”
He further praised the “Enugu Safe City” initiative, describing it as a first-of-its-kind project in both the South East and across Nigeria. The initiative is aimed at establishing a robust communication and surveillance system to ensure rapid response to security incidents.
Nnam urged other governors to emulate the Enugu model, emphasizing that modern, tech-based strategies are vital in overcoming Nigeria’s security challenges.
According to him, Governor Peter Mbah has successfully restored public confidence and made Enugu a benchmark for smart security governance.
