Prominent businessman and socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has received an appointment as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, a political support group associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Iyiegbu disclosed the development on Tuesday via his official Instagram page, revealing that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Tinubu, visited him at his residence on Monday night to formally present his certificate of appointment.

According to the Anambra-born entrepreneur, the visit also provided an opportunity for both men to engage in wide-ranging discussions on national issues.

“Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We held great conversations about everything,” he wrote.

Reacting to the mixed public reactions that followed his appointment, Obi Cubana defended his decision to accept the role, stressing that real and lasting change can only be achieved through active participation and constructive engagement.

“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he said.

The nightlife entrepreneur further assured that his new role would not compromise his personal values, adding that he remains committed to integrity, community development and responsible leadership.

“I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside—so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out,” he declared.

Iyiegbu described President Tinubu as “a City Boy and a man of commerce,” while pledging to promote inclusivity in carrying out his responsibilities.

“All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do,” he added.

He also called on Nigerians to respect differing opinions, urging a collective focus on nation-building and value creation.

“Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now—we move!” he stated.

Obi Cubana concluded by thanking his supporters for their goodwill and reaffirmed his commitment to working towards a more inclusive future for the country.
