Arsenal defender William Saliba has revealed that he turned down an opportunity to join Real Madrid, choosing instead to stay and fight for success with the Gunners.
The French international, who recently signed a contract extension with Arsenal, said his priority is to win silverware with the Premier League club before thinking about any future move.
“Of course it’s really tempting when a club like that is interested in you,” Saliba told Telefoot.
“But I wanted to win titles at Arsenal first before thinking about anything else.”
Saliba’s decision comes as Arsenal continue their strong start to the Premier League season, with Mikel Arteta’s side currently six points clear at the top after 10 matches, fuelling hopes of ending the club’s two-decade title drought.
Since his arrival, Saliba has become one of Arsenal’s most important players, anchoring the defence with composure and consistency. His commitment to the club has further strengthened the belief that Arsenal are building a long-term project capable of challenging Europe’s elite.
