Usman joins Makhachev in UFC’s legendary win streak club

Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman equals Islam Makhachev’s 15-fight streak, second only to Anderson Silva’s all-time record.

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has joined elite company, ranking joint-second on the list of the longest win streaks in UFC history with 15 consecutive victories — a record he now shares with lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

Usman’s dominant run from 2015 to 2022 began with a win over Leon Edwards and included five successful title defences, before Edwards famously ended the streak in their rematch. The Nigerian’s consistency and control over opponents placed him among the sport’s greatest ever.

At the top of the list remains Anderson Silva, whose iconic 16-fight winning streak (2006–2012) set the benchmark for dominance in mixed martial arts. Makhachev, still active, reached 15 wins in January 2025 and has his sights set on overtaking Silva’s record.

Other notable names include Georges St-Pierre, Jon Jones, and Khabib Nurmagomedov, all boasting double-digit streaks that helped shape UFC history.

After a brief slump, Usman returned to winning ways in June, defeating Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC on ESPN 69. The victory revived his ambitions, with the “Nigerian Nightmare” now targeting another title shot.

Speaking on his Pound 4 Pound podcast with Henry Cejudo, Usman said:

“People wanted to know if I was still that guy, and I showed them I can hang with these contenders. I’m not worried — I’m ready for whoever comes next.”

With Jack Della Maddalena set to defend his belt against Makhachev on November 15 at Madison Square Garden, Usman believes the winner should face him next
