Lagos-based non-league side, Tonic Football Club, has unveiled five of its players recently signed by FC Esmoriz of Portugal, marking another milestone for the six-month-old grassroots outfit.
Founded just half a year ago, Tonic FC operates as a feeder team to FC Esmoriz. The club recently competed in the NLO championship, where they narrowly missed out on promotion.
Speaking on the development, the club’s General Overseer, Prince Dapo Ajibade, described Tonic FC as a “veritable football factory” dedicated to unearthing and nurturing fresh grassroots talent from the Ikorodu community in Lagos State.
“This is just a tip of the iceberg,” Ajibade said. “We have many more young and talented footballers who will soon join the professional ranks.”
Among the five players heading to Portugal is towering goalkeeper Ayuba Oyetola, who stands at an imposing 6’9. The group is expected to depart in the coming weeks to further their professional football careers under the guidance of their Portuguese parent club.
