President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday received Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following the recent deadly attacks in Jos.
The meeting came three days after the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, which left at least 28 people dead.
According to the State House media office, the governor arrived at the Presidential Villa around 6:45 p.m. for the closed-door meeting with the President.
The visit followed an earlier directive by the President summoning the governor to discuss the worsening security situation in the North-Central state.
In the aftermath of the killings, Tinubu condemned the attacks, describing them as barbaric and vowing that those responsible would face justice.
Speaking through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President also denounced another attack in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” the President said in a statement issued on Monday.
While condemning the violence, Tinubu commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts to contain the situation in Jos and directed security agencies to intensify the search for those behind the attacks.
The President also cautioned sections of the media against portraying the violence as religiously motivated, warning that such narratives could further inflame tensions.
The meeting at the Presidential Villa is expected to focus on immediate security measures aimed at preventing further attacks in Plateau State.
Meanwhile, Tinubu is scheduled to visit Jos on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent killings.
The President had earlier planned to travel to **Iperu in Ogun State to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport, but postponed the trip in light of the security situation in Plateau.
Onanuga confirmed the change in plans in a statement on Wednesday.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today postponed his scheduled trip to Iperu, Ogun State, tomorrow to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport,” he said.
“Instead, he will head to Jos, capital of Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent gun attacks, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens.”
The visit is expected to include meetings with local authorities, security officials, and community leaders as the federal government reviews strategies to restore peace in the state.
