Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has described his team’s 4-1 Premier League loss to Arsenal on Sunday as a “bad performance,” following a dominant display from the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.
Eberechi Eze scored a hat-trick to secure all three points for Arsenal, while Tottenham’s solitary goal came after Martin Zubimendi was dispossessed, allowing Richarlison to fire over David Raya from distance.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Frank expressed his disappointment with how Spurs conceded the goals and failed to impose themselves on the game.
“I think it is extremely painful. I won’t talk away from that. It was a bad performance. It was completely the opposite of what the intention was when we came here. We can only apologise to the fans for the performance,” he said.
Frank also criticised his team for losing duels and failing to handle Arsenal’s attacking threats. “When the team went long, we didn’t win enough duels. That is exemplified by the 2-0 goal and the 3-0 goal, where a player went through two or three players. Bad performance and we lost,” he added.
Despite acknowledging Spurs’ character and fight in previous games, Frank insisted the team must improve their competitiveness in duels and execution to avoid similar results in future fixtures.
