Trabzon, 21 September 2025 — On-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana stole the headlines in Turkey on Saturday with a stunning assist for Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu during Trabzonspor’s 1-1 draw against Gaziantep in the Super Lig.

Onuachu, who completed a permanent move from Southampton this summer, scored his third goal of the season after latching onto Onana’s inch-perfect pass. The striker held off defenders before slotting calmly past the goalkeeper to secure a valuable point for Trabzonspor.

The Cameroonian keeper, making his second appearance for the Turkish side, showcased the ball-playing ability that once made him a star at Inter Milan. Last weekend, he impressed with eight saves on debut, despite a narrow 1-0 loss to Fenerbahce.

Fans reacted with excitement across social media. Some argued that Onana was never the problem at Manchester United, pointing instead to the club’s defensive issues. “The only reason Onana was poor at United is because they didn’t allow him to play his way,” one supporter posted on X. Others praised him for rediscovering his confidence, saying, “Thank God he is doing well, meaning Onana was not the problem at Man U.”

Onana joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan after struggling at Old Trafford, where he kept just 18 clean sheets in 72 Premier League games. His last outing for United came in a shock Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town.

He will return to action with Trabzonspor on 27 September when they face Fatih Karagumruk. Onuachu, meanwhile, has now netted three times in six appearances this season, continuing his bright start in Turkey.
