Skit Maker Nasboi Declares Himself Both Muslim and Christian, Cites Diverse Upbringing

The comedian and singer added that his life across Port Harcourt and Uyo, as well as his exposure to diverse cultures, made it impossible for him to align with tribalism or religious extremism.

Popular skit maker and musician, Lawal Nasiru, better known as Nasboi, has declared that he identifies as both a Muslim and a Christian, attributing his stance to his diverse family and cultural background.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Nasboi explained that his upbringing — shaped by a Yoruba Muslim father and a Christian mother from Warri — influenced his open-minded outlook on religion and ethnicity.

“My papa Yoruba, my mama Warri. My papa Muslim, my mama Christian. I was born and raised in Port Harcourt. I studied at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom. This is why I can never relate to tribalism or all the religious agendas,” he wrote.

The comedian and singer added that his life across Port Harcourt and Uyo, as well as his exposure to diverse cultures, made it impossible for him to align with tribalism or religious extremism.

Nasboi’s statement has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many applauding his inclusivity and tolerance, while others criticized him for what they described as indecisiveness in choosing a single faith identity.

Supporters hailed his comment as a call for religious harmony and national unity, noting that Nigeria’s diversity should be celebrated rather than used to divide people.

Nasboi, who has gained fame for his witty skits and musical versatility, continues to use his platform to advocate for peace, understanding, and cultural acceptance across Nigeria’s multi-ethnic landscape.
