Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on individuals and organizations to support the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to sustain the security of lives and properties across the state.
The appeal was made on Friday during a private breakfast meeting with select Managing Directors and CEOs, organized by the LSSTF in Ikoyi, Lagos, to raise funds for critical security needs in 2026.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that past interventions by the trust fund were well-utilized to empower security agencies, noting that the model has since been adopted by other state and federal governments.
“On a year-on-year basis, the Lagos State Government has never taken a back seat on its responsibility. We still fund well over 50 per cent of whatever it is that happens year-on-year. But we wanted it to be something that the private sector can trust, and they can see that their support at all times is always judiciously used,” he said.
The governor highlighted ongoing projects, including the rebuilding of the Command and Control Center with state-of-the-art equipment, installation of CCTV cameras, and expansion of the Safe City Model, which aims to deploy 5,000 to 10,000 cameras across Lagos.
He outlined security needs for the state, including multi-purpose helicopters and drones, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), water cannons, tactical training, digital communication equipment, Smart CCTV cameras, vehicles, and an ultra-modern mechanical workshop.
On the recent protests against demolitions in Makoko, Sanwo-Olu said the government’s actions prioritize public safety. He stressed that relocations were necessary due to the proximity of shanties to high-tension power lines near the Third Mainland Bridge.
The governor also highlighted development achievements, such as resolving the Okobaba sawmill problem, relocating affected residents to Agbowa, and constructing over 500 houses for them. He further disclosed plans to commission 35 junior and senior schools in Tolu, Ajegunle, benefiting about 22,000 students.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that security is essential to maintaining an environment conducive for investment, public safety, and sustainable development in Lagos.
