Resident doctors across Nigeria have announced plans to resume a nationwide strike beginning January 12, 2026, following what they described as the Federal Government’s failure to fully implement agreements reached during negotiations that led to the suspension of an earlier industrial action.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) made the disclosure in a statement issued after an emergency virtual meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC).

According to the association, the government has stalled the implementation of key provisions contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties, despite repeated assurances.

NARD stated that the planned strike, tagged “TICS 2.0: No Implementation, No Going Back,” will be total, comprehensive, and indefinite.

The association said the industrial action is scheduled to commence at midnight on January 12, 2026, if the government fails to address its demands before the deadline.

Resident doctors warned that the continued delay in implementing the agreed terms has left them with no alternative but to withdraw their services nationwide.

They expressed concern that the situation could further strain Nigeria’s already fragile healthcare system but insisted that the government must honour its commitments to avert the strike.

NARD called on the Federal Government to act urgently to prevent a shutdown of medical services in public health institutions across the country.
