Rashford’s Future Uncertain as Villa Loan Nears End Amid Manchester United Exit Talk

With a strong loan spell at Aston Villa and no clear way back at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old England forward will assess his options this summer.

Marcus Rashford scored his fourth goal since joining Aston Villa on loan in February during their 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Tuesday. While his contribution at Villa Park has been notable, questions continue to swirl about his long-term future at Manchester United.

The 27-year-old striker’s loan deal expires at the end of the season. Although his United contract runs until 2028, sources close to Rashford suggest a return to Old Trafford is unlikely. Rashford was exiled from the squad by manager Rúben Amorim in December and hasn’t featured in a matchday lineup—aside from one unused substitute appearance—since.

“I couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” Amorim said following Rashford’s loan departure.

United now face a critical decision: either sell Rashford or loan him out again this summer. Financial restructuring and squad reshaping under Amorim’s vision make resolving Rashford’s status a priority—but a difficult one.

Rashford, who reportedly has no interest in relocating to London and prefers a club qualified for the Champions League, is not considering his future until mid-June. He has also ruled out being part of any swap deal, amid rumors linking United with Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.

Despite a modest return of four goals in 17 games, Rashford’s total impact at Villa—adding six assists—has been vital. His performances earned him a recall to the England squad, and he’s kept Ollie Watkins out of the starting XI at times.

Villa manager Unai Emery has remained cautious about discussing Rashford’s long-term future:

“I am so happy with him. He is performing very well. His adaptation has been quick and his commitment to the process is really important for us and for him,” Emery said. “He needs to keep going and on Saturday, hopefully he can help again.”

As one of United’s highest earners, only a few clubs can meet his salary demands. However, with United previously covering part of his wages to facilitate the Villa deal, there’s optimism in the Rashford camp that serious interest will materialize this summer.
