Police Arrest Seven Suspected Student Cultists in Akwa Ibom With Human Skull and Firearm

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested seven suspected student cultists in possession of a human skull, a firearm, and other items believed to be for ritual purposes.

DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer of the command, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday. He said the suspects, believed to be members of the Ku Klux Klans (KKK) Confraternity, were arrested on August 28, 2025, following a tip-off by a former member and student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

According to John, the arrests followed a report received on August 25 from a student who alleged he was ambushed and attacked with dangerous weapons by the group. The victim, who had reportedly renounced his membership, was left unconscious with severe injuries. His Redmi 13C Android phone and ₦41,000 in cash were also stolen.

“On August 28, 2025, Operatives of the Command arrested seven suspects in connection with a cult-related assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and human skull,” John said.

The suspects were identified as Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, Saviour Dany Akpan, Emmanuel Friday Umoh, Augustine Uduak Okon, Mary Ating Asukwo, and Itohowo Christopher Uko.

Items recovered from their hideout include a locally made short gun, seven live cartridges, one fresh human skull, a bottle containing a substance suspected to be black oil, and a bottle of Guyanese oil, suspected to be used for ritualistic purposes.

John said investigations are ongoing and assured that efforts are being intensified to arrest other members of the gang and recover more incriminating items.
