PDP Says It Has Not Received Formal Resignation from Osun Governor Adeleke

Chairman Kabiru Turaki insists party awaits official notice despite media reports of Adeleke’s departure

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that it has not received any formal communication from Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State regarding his alleged resignation from the party.

Chairman Kabiru Turaki disclosed this after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, responding to Adeleke’s announcement on Tuesday that he was leaving the PDP, citing ongoing internal crises as his reason for departure.

Speaking to journalists, Turaki said the party became aware of Adeleke’s reported resignation only through media reports and has yet to receive an official notice from the governor.

“We have seen online a letter said to be from him resigning from our party, but I tell you that we have not, up to this moment, received any formal indication that he has left,” Turaki stated.

The PDP chairman noted that Adeleke’s name is still listed among aspirants vying for the Osun governorship ticket, adding that the party will rely on reports from its primary officials to confirm whether he has formally withdrawn.

“As far as we are concerned, even if the letter circulating online is genuine, Gov. Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the freedom to associate as he wishes,” Turaki said.

He emphasized that the PDP’s strength lies in its grassroots supporters rather than elected officials who defect. According to Turaki, departures of governors in some states have not significantly weakened the party’s base.

“Our people have remained with us, and by God’s grace, when elections come, they will show that the PDP is still solid,” he said.

Turaki also highlighted that the NWC reviewed and approved congresses in Osun for electing ad hoc delegates and assessed preparations for upcoming local government elections in Anambra, expressing confidence in strong performance.

Addressing wider political matters, Turaki noted that former PDP governors nominated by President Bola Tinubu for ambassadorial positions have yet to formally inform the party. “If they approach us, we will consider their communication on its merit,” he said.

On national security, Turaki urged the federal government to urgently reassess Nigeria’s security framework, arguing that it is unreasonable to designate governors as chief security officers without granting them actual control over operations in their states.

“We call on the federal government to brace up and begin a comprehensive review of the security framework in this country,” he added.
