Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have begun arriving at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja for its 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled to commence at 2 p.m. on Monday.
The session is expected to attract governors, former ministers, and prominent party figures, including former Deputy National Chairman Chief Bode George and former Minister of Information Prof. Jerry Gana.
In a post via its official X handle, the PDP announced that the NEC would deliberate on critical issues such as the report of the National Zoning Committee and preparations for the national convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The atmosphere at the secretariat was lively, with members singing and cheering as party chieftains arrived. The meeting is widely seen as part of the PDP’s renewed push to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Today’s meeting reflects the PDP’s shared vision and determination to deliver for Nigerians in 2027,” the party stated.
Zoning Decisions and Convention Plans
The zoning committee, chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, with Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal as vice chairman and Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang as secretary, was constituted in July to allocate the 19 National Working Committee (NWC) positions between the North and South.
At the Southern PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos last Thursday, leaders resolved to distribute key offices as follows:
- South-South: Deputy National Chairman, National Publicity Secretary
- South-West: National Secretary, National Auditor
- South-East: Deputy National Secretary, Financial Secretary
With backing from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the National Secretary position was micro-zoned to Oyo State, while Akwa Ibom secured the Publicity Secretary slot.
The tenure of the current acting NWC, led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, will expire in December. To prevent internal cracks, the party’s 101st NEC meeting in July approved the November convention, to be chaired by Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary.
