Onyinyechi Basil has emerged as the winner of Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 after a glamorous finale held on Saturday, August 30, at the Balmoral Event Centre in Lagos.
The 25-year-old outshone 20 other contestants in swimsuit, evening gown, and question-and-answer segments, impressing judges and the audience alike with her poise, intelligence, and strong advocacy.
Basil succeeds Chidimma Adetshina and will now represent Nigeria at the 74th Miss Universe pageant scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 20.
A native of Anambra State, Basil used her platform to spotlight women’s education and empowerment. “I want young girls to know that they can be more, achieve more, and still celebrate their cultural identity,” she said moments after being crowned.
Her victory further cements Anambra’s reputation as a hub for producing beauty queens who combine elegance with strong social advocacy. As Miss Universe Nigeria, she plans to use her reign to champion education, empower young women, and promote cultural diversity on both national and international stages.
In addition to representing Nigeria globally, Basil will receive a yet-to-be-disclosed cash prize, along with brand endorsements, gifts, training opportunities, and paid appearances.
