The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the indefinite suspension of former Governor of the state and serving Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, over alleged anti-party activities.
Also suspended is Hon. Kunle Folarin, another party stalwart, on similar grounds.
In a statement issued late Tuesday in Abeokuta by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, the decision was ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) at its meeting on August 19, chaired by State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, with 16 members present.
According to the statement, disciplinary committees set up in Ward 4 and Ward 6 of Sagamu Local Government had earlier investigated the duo for alleged misconduct. The committees said Daniel and Folarin were invited to defend themselves but failed to honour the invitations.
“Rather than explore the opportunity to respond to the allegations, the members resorted to harassing party members and warning them against cooperating with the Committees,” the statement alleged.
It further accused both politicians of leveraging their influence to pressure party members to withdraw petitions filed against them.
After deliberations, the disciplinary panels recommended indefinite suspension, which the SWC subsequently upheld.
The statement read in part:
“In exercise of its powers, the State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State hereby affirms the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin by their respective wards for alleged anti-party activities.”
The APC said the action underscores its commitment to discipline and upholding the constitution of the party.
