The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, has appointed Chief Emmanuel Iyase as the new Okao Eguae (Palace District Head) for the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms in Edo State. This significant decision follows the suspension of Prince Owen Jackson Akenzua, the Enigie of Ologbo, and Chief D. E. Igiehon, the Enigie of Ehor, alongside 69 other Dukes, for allegedly rebelling against the Benin monarchy.
Chief Iyase’s appointment marks a historic moment as he becomes the first Okao Eguae from the Benin Palace, tasked with overseeing traditional leadership in the affected areas. In his new role, Iyase will work closely with the Edionwere, elders, and other top functionaries under the authority of the Oba, ensuring harmony and effective governance in the Dukedoms of Ologbo and Ehor.
During a brief ceremony at the Ugha Ozolua axis in the Oba’s Palace in Benin City, Oba Ewuare II, while congratulating the newly appointed Okao, urged him to uphold the integrity of the monarchy. The Oba emphasized the importance of shunning unethical practices that could undermine the authority of the Oba or bring disrepute to the Dukedoms.
“I will also urge you to work in harmony with the Edionwere, elders in the Dukedoms, and with the support of designated top functionaries on the authority of the Benin monarch,” the Oba stated.
In response, Iyase, who was accompanied by his family and well-wishers, thanked the Oba for the trust placed in him. He promised to remain committed to the well-being of the people and the development of the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms.
As the newly appointed Okao Eguae, Iyase is poised to restore order and work towards the prosperity of the two Dukedoms under the guidance of the Benin monarchy.
