Nicki Minaj Raises Alarm on Persecution of Nigerian Christians at UN Event

Minaj revealed that she was invited to the event after her social media posts highlighting the plight of Nigerian Christians caught the attention of the US diplomat.

American rapper Nicki Minaj has drawn attention to the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, emphasising that protecting them is a matter of uniting humanity. The ‘Anaconda’ star spoke on Tuesday at a United Nations event hosted by US Ambassador Mike Waltz.

Minaj revealed that she was invited to the event after her social media posts highlighting the plight of Nigerian Christians caught the attention of the US diplomat.

“I would like to thank President Trump for prioritising this issue and his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria and to combat extremism, and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to express their natural right to freedom of religion or belief,” Minaj said.

She described the situation in Nigeria as dire, noting that Christians are being targeted, displaced, and killed, with churches destroyed, families torn apart, and communities living in constant fear simply for practicing their faith.

“I want to be clear, protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity. It’s about standing up in the face of injustice. It’s about what I’ve always stood for my entire career, and I will continue to stand for that for the rest of my life,” she added.

Minaj’s intervention seeks to mobilise global attention and action to safeguard religious freedom in Nigeria, underscoring the broader human rights implications of violence against religious communities.
