In a heartfelt revelation, Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has spoken publicly about a personal health battle that led to her recent weight loss. During a candid chat with fellow veteran actress Joke Silva, Johnson-Okojie shared how a cancer scare led to the removal of her thyroid.
“I had a cancer scare and I had my thyroid removed,” she said. “It was a journey for us because we have kids, and my lastborn was six months old at the time.”
The actress explained how the diagnosis and treatment changed her family’s life. “We had to understand this is the new us. Let’s go get the surgery done.”
She further revealed the lifelong impact of the condition. “When we got there, they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life. We had to sit down and process that. They told me I can’t miss my medication and explained the side effects.”
Responding to public commentary on her weight loss, Mercy emphasized that her slimmer figure is a result of ongoing medical care and a new reality.
“I’m reconciling with this. So when people talk about my weight loss, I just remind myself: this is where we are. Let’s grow from here and live in this comfort zone.”
