Kylian Mbappé is set to return from injury as Real Madrid aim to finish the job against Manchester City in their UEFA Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday.
Mbappé missed Real Madrid’s dominant 3-0 victory in the first leg due to a knee injury but is now fit and expected to feature at the Etihad Stadium.
Real manager Álvaro Arbeloa confirmed the forward’s availability, expressing excitement over his return.
“Mbappé is ready to play. I cannot wait to see him back on the pitch, to enjoy watching him play and to score the goals he scores. Of course he’ll be important,” he said.
The France international has been in sensational form this season, scoring 38 goals in 33 appearances, making him a key figure as Madrid look to secure progression.
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham has travelled with the squad as he continues recovery from a hamstring injury, although he is not expected to play.
“Bellingham wanted to come with his team-mates. It’s important to have him around the group because he’s one of the leaders,” Arbeloa added.
Holding a comfortable first-leg advantage, Real Madrid are strongly positioned to eliminate Manchester City for a third consecutive season.
Defender Antonio Rüdiger highlighted the importance of containing City’s star striker Erling Haaland, who has struggled for form in recent matches.
“Players like Haaland — it’s a huge pleasure to play against this type of player. I enjoy the physical battle and I’m looking forward to it,” Rüdiger said.
The German defender also addressed recent criticism from Diego Rico, who accused him of excessive force in a challenge earlier this month.
“In slow motion it looks terrible, but in reality it wasn’t like that. If I had that intention, he wouldn’t have stood up,” Rüdiger said.
He acknowledged his aggressive style of play but insisted he operates within limits.
“We all know I like to be tough on the pitch, but I still have boundaries. I am a human being,” he added.
With Mbappé back in contention and momentum on their side, Real Madrid will look to seal qualification and continue their strong run in Europe’s elite competition.
