Mbappé Ruled Out of France’s World Cup Qualifier Against Azerbaijan

Les Bleus will be without their captain after the Real Madrid star suffered ankle inflammation following Thursday’s victory over Ukraine.

France captain Kylian Mbappé will miss the national team’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan this weekend due to an ankle injury, the French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed on Friday.

The 26-year-old Real Madrid forward, who delivered a standout performance with a brace in France’s 4–0 triumph over Ukraine on Thursday—securing their place in next year’s World Cup—has been sidelined ahead of Sunday’s Group D clash in Baku.

According to the FFF, Mbappé “felt an inflammation in his right ankle that requires tests,” with examinations scheduled to take place in Madrid.

France coach Didier Deschamps faces additional squad concerns as he will also be without Eduardo Camavinga, who is injured, and Manu Koné, who is suspended for the final match of the qualification campaign.

Despite these setbacks, Les Bleus have already secured qualification, giving Deschamps an opportunity to rotate his squad as they close out their impressive campaign.
