Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has assured the Nigerian Armed Forces of his administration’s steadfast support in their mission to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.

The assurance was delivered on Thursday by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat during the Parade and Laying of Wreaths Ceremony at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island, marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the Lagos State government remains committed to supporting the families of fallen military personnel. He noted that the sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces in protecting lives and property require reciprocal support from both federal and state governments.

“Today, we are doing the Armed Forces celebration and Remembrance Day to honour and encourage our military officials, as well as to remember our fallen heroes and to pray for them. Their sacrifices have never been in vain. This is to show them that the nation is behind them and that we will do everything it takes to support them,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing support for the widows of fallen heroes, assuring that while much of the assistance occurs behind the scenes, the government remains fully dedicated to valuing and encouraging military personnel for their service.

Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the Lagos State Government for its continuous support to the Armed Forces and particularly to the families of fallen heroes. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Legion’s commitment to the welfare of military veterans and dependents, emphasizing the statutory role of the organization in providing ongoing support.

The ceremony served as both a tribute to the courage of active military personnel and a solemn remembrance of those who have laid down their lives in service to the nation.
