The First Lady of Lagos State and Chairman, Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled the lineup of activities for the 25th edition of the National Women’s Conference (NWC), describing it as a milestone celebration of visionary legacy, empowerment, and transformative leadership.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Dr. Sanwo-Olu said this year’s Silver Jubilee edition, themed “25 Years of Visionary Legacy: Inspiring the Next Generation,” reflects COWLSO’s enduring commitment to the welfare, leadership, and economic advancement of women in Lagos and across Nigeria.
According to her, the three-day conference will hold from Monday, October 28 to Wednesday, October 30, 2025, at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. It is expected to attract 3,000 physical delegates and 2,000 virtual participants from within and outside Nigeria.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu announced that the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, will deliver the Silver Jubilee Address, while Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony. The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, will grace the closing ceremony, joining the host Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
She emphasized that the participation of distinguished personalities underscores COWLSO’s national influence as a unifying platform for women’s empowerment and development.
“For a quarter of a century, COWLSO has stood tall as a formidable platform committed to the advancement, empowerment, and transformation of women in Lagos and across Nigeria,” she said. “This milestone edition challenges us to reflect on our journey, celebrate our legacies, and hand the baton to the next generation of women leaders and change-makers.”
Pre-conference activities have already commenced, including free health screenings, environmental sanitation, empowerment programmes for vulnerable persons, and visits to orphanages and care homes.
The annual COWLSO Pre-Conference Awareness Walk will hold on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in Ikorodu, themed “Step Up, Show Up, Never Give Up,” aimed at sensitizing residents and inspiring resilience among women.
Highlight sessions at the conference will cover diverse topics such as:
- “Practical Apps for Easier Daily Living, Business Support, and Improved Productivity”
- “Women Championing Traffic Discipline through Inclusive and Smarter Transportation Systems”
- “Nurturing a Healthy Marriage through Self-Care and Wellness,” chaired by Professor Olatunji Bello, featuring Bishop Funke Felix-Adejumo and Mrs. Abimbola Akinwunmi
- “Women as Change-Makers: Combating Trafficking, Organ Harvesting, and Unsafe Practices,” chaired by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Dame Julie Okah-Donli
Other attractions include the COWLSO Physical and Virtual Markets, where participants can shop at subsidized rates, and the Gala Night featuring entertainment, cultural showcases, and raffle draws.
Earlier, the Chairman of the 2025 National Women’s Conference, Dr. Olayemi Oke-Osanyitolu, described the event as a “historic Silver Jubilee celebration of women’s empowerment, leadership, and service.” She commended Dr. Sanwo-Olu for her exemplary leadership and dedication to women’s advancement.
Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu added that this year’s edition would be “intellectually stimulating, entertaining, and impactful,” featuring sessions on leadership, entrepreneurship, marriage, and career growth.
The press briefing was attended by Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Deputy Governor; Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity; and several COWLSO executives and members.
