The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Kuje Area Council election, Abubakar Dambo, has attributed the delay in announcing the chairmanship result to challenges in two wards.

Dambo disclosed this on Sunday during an interview with The Nation. He said collation was yet to be concluded in Central and Kabi wards. According to him, results from eight out of the ten wards have already been declared.

Speaking at the Kuje office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dambo explained that the delay was caused by a logistical error involving collation officers.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process.

“I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward,” Dambo said.

Kuje remains the only outstanding area council, as results from the other five councils have already been announced.

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened in and around the INEC office in Kuje to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Party agents, journalists and security personnel were present at the collation centre awaiting the formal declaration of the winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Nkiruka Odoh.

In Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the chairmanship election after polling 18,466 votes.

The Returning Officer, Mohammed Nurudeen, announced the result for the 2026 FCT Area Council, Bwari chairmanship election held on February 21, 2026. He declared Ishaku duly elected after satisfying the requirements of the law.

Similarly, INEC declared Christopher Maikalangu of the APC as the elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council after securing 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast.

In Gwagwalada Area Council, Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious with 22,165 votes. He defeated Yahaya Shehu of the APC, who polled 17,788 votes.

Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the APC also won the Abaji Area Council election with 15,536 votes, while the PDP secured 4,547 votes.

In Kwali Area Council, the APC candidate, Nuhu Daniel, was declared winner after scoring 17,032 votes. He defeated the PDP candidate, Haruna Pai, who secured 8,575 votes.
