The newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt.-General Olufemi Oluyede, along with the other Service Chiefs, officially assumed duty on Thursday at their respective headquarters in Abuja. This follows their unanimous confirmation by the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The confirmed Service Chiefs are:
- Lt.-General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
- Maj.-General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
- Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
- Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff (CAS)
During his handover ceremony, the former CDS, General Christopher Musa, urged officers of the Armed Forces to support the new defence leadership in the interest of national security.
In his remarks, the new CDS, Lt.-General Oluyede, reaffirmed the commitment of the military to intensify ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.
He stated that his leadership would focus on accountability, discipline, improved welfare, loyalty and professionalism, stressing that the fight against insecurity would continue with renewed vigour.
