A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

The crisis, which stems from renewed hostilities between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, took a dramatic turn on Thursday as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.

Reacting to the development, Igbokwe condemned the impeachment plot, stressing that he would not support the removal of Governor Fubara under any circumstances.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, the APC stalwart urged President Tinubu to step in and halt what he described as unnecessary distractions in the oil-rich state.

“I will not support the impeachment of Governor Fubara for any reason whatsoever,” Igbokwe wrote.

He added, “PBAT should intervene to stop the distractions in the oil rich state. The state has been in the news for the wrong reasons.”

The political tension in Rivers State has continued to generate national attention, with concerns mounting over its impact on governance and stability in one of Nigeria’s most economically strategic states.
