The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission announced that former Nasir El-Rufai will be arraigned at the Federal High Court, Kaduna on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, over alleged corruption-related offences.

According to the ICPC’s Head of Media and Public Communications, John Odey, El-Rufai and one Joel Adoga will be arraigned under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026. Charges include conversion and possession of public property as well as money laundering.

The planned arraignment follows pressure from political and civil society groups, including the African Democratic Congress and the Muslim Rights Concern, who described his continued detention without formal charges as a violation of constitutional rights. Family members of the former governor have also called for his immediate arraignment.

In addition to the federal case, the ICPC filed a separate charge, number KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, against El-Rufai and one Amadu Sule (LEDA) before a Kaduna State High Court. The counts include abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage. The arraignment date for the state case will be communicated by the court.

El-Rufai was initially detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 16, 2026, granted bail on February 18, and immediately rearrested by the ICPC. He has remained in ICPC custody since then amid repeated calls for due process and formal arraignment.

The ICPC affirmed that El-Rufai has been duly served with charges and reiterated its commitment to the rule of law.
