Huawei Empowers Nigeria’s Energy Transition with Technical Training Program,
Huawei is playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s energy transition strategy with a new technical training initiative aimed at fostering green energy solutions.
The Green Energy and Solar Power Training, held in Abuja on Wednesday, is designed to accelerate the country’s progress toward sustainable energy, enhancing energy security while addressing pressing power challenges.
Huawei Nigeria’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy goals was evident during the event, where Board Director Jim Zhang emphasized the company’s long-standing partnership with Nigeria in telecommunications, digital power, and renewable energy.
Zhang highlighted that Huawei has already contributed significantly to Nigeria’s energy sector, having supplied nearly 100 megawatts of power through smart PV and ESS systems.
“We are committed to offering innovative solutions to Nigeria’s energy challenges, ensuring seamless integration and rapid deployment of renewable energy sources,” Zhang said. “We are confident that working alongside the government and businesses, we can overcome obstacles and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
The training program, organized by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Ministry of Power, and Huawei, highlights the importance of adopting green energy solutions for Nigeria’s economic and environmental progress.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, represented by Permanent Secretary Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, underscored the necessity of renewable energy in Nigeria’s future. He emphasized that solar power is not just an opportunity but an essential tool for empowering communities and stimulating economic growth.
“Solar power is a necessity, not just an alternative,” said Adelabu. “It can reduce Nigeria’s carbon footprint while promoting sustainability and economic development.”
The training program aims to equip participants with the skills needed to harness the full potential of solar energy, with a focus on education, technological advancement, and collaboration between the government, industry, and the tech sector.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, expressed gratitude to Huawei for organizing the training. She emphasized its potential long-term impact on Nigeria’s civil service and the wider energy transition.
“We are deeply thankful to Huawei for this initiative,” said Walson-Jack. “This program will be institutionalized within the civil service, ensuring that government officials are well-equipped for the future of renewable energy.”
With Nigeria’s drive to diversify energy sources and reduce fossil fuel dependency, this training program represents a key step in transforming how energy is produced and used in the country.
The event also served as a platform for industry leaders to discuss the vital role of public-private partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s green energy goals. Huawei remains committed to continuing its support in driving innovation across both the telecommunications and energy sectors in Nigeria.
