Fubara Assures Rivers Residents that Political Crisis Will Strengthen the State

Governor Siminalayi Fubara speaks out on ongoing political tension, urging patience and unity among Rivers residents.

The suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that despite the ongoing political crisis, the situation will ultimately lead to a stronger, more unified state. Fubara, in his remarks, emphasized that certain elements may try to incite violence to destabilize the state, but such efforts will not succeed.

Speaking to a delegation of Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups during an Eid-el-Fitri Sallah visit at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Fubara addressed the tension currently gripping the state. He described the season as one of love, sharing, and sacrifice, urging his supporters to trust in God’s process.

“This season is one of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made a great sacrifice through your prayers,” Fubara said, acknowledging the challenges that many residents face in light of the political instability. He expressed hope that this period would lead the people to a greater purpose.

Fubara reflected on the political tension in the state, stating that while the crisis may cause feelings of distress, it is important to trust in divine forces beyond human understanding. “No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God,” he added, stressing that the state will emerge stronger in the end.

Reaffirming his commitment to justice and equality, Fubara highlighted that his administration envisions an egalitarian society where no one is oppressed. He acknowledged the temporary loss of direct communication with the Muslim community during the festive season but assured them that their requests would be addressed once the crisis subsides.

The Governor further urged patience and perseverance, drawing inspiration from religious history. “If God could be patient with Noah to allow even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains an essential virtue in our struggle,” he said, encouraging people to remain resilient.

Fubara also cautioned against efforts by some individuals to provoke violence. He assured residents that the government would continue to operate peacefully and respect constituted authority to maintain order in the state. “We will not allow anyone to destabilize the state or deny our people their means of livelihood,” he stated.

In solidarity with the Governor, Nasir Uhor, representing the Muslim Ummah, reiterated their support for Fubara. Uhor commended the governor’s inclusive approach to governance, highlighting the contrast with the previous administration’s declaration of Rivers as a 100% Christian state. He also called on President Bola Tinubu to review the emergency rule in the state and restore Fubara’s full authority.

During the visit, prayers were offered for the Governor, his family, the state, and Nigeria as a whole, as the Muslim leaders expressed their unwavering support.
