Ethio Telecom last week unveiled TeleStream, a new platform aimed at diversifying revenue streams, stimulating data usage, and expanding access to local content.

Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio Telecom, described TeleStream as a platform that goes “beyond mere entertainment,” enabling educational institutions, health sectors, and businesses to digitize and market their services effectively.

The rollout is part of Ethio Telecom’s Next Horizon Digital and Beyond 2028, launched in August 2025, which seeks to reposition the operator as a central driver of Ethiopia’s digital transformation.

TeleStream allows public institutions, universities, content creators, and businesses to produce, host, and distribute digital content, supporting online training, tourism promotion, institutional communication, and cultural services. The platform also aims to capture market share from international streaming services by fostering a domestic digital content ecosystem that generates local revenues.
