Edo Governor Boosts University Funding, Commissions E-Library, Fitness, and Health Facilities at Edo State University, Iyamho

Governor Monday Okpebholo has increased the monthly subvention for Edo State University, Iyamho from ₦100 million to ₦250 million, while pledging a ₦2 billion grant for infrastructural development.

The governor inaugurated the Ehi Aganmonmen Business Administration E-Library and laid the foundation for the Peter Omoh Dunia Fitness Centre and the Edo State University Health Centre during a ceremony on Monday.

Okpebholo described the day as a defining moment for the institution and a reflection of his administration’s commitment to repositioning education in the state.

He paid tribute to Chief Ehi Aganmonmen for donating computers and furniture for the E-Library, noting that the contribution would enhance digital learning and academic excellence. Similarly, he commended Peter Omoh Dunia for supporting the development of the Fitness Centre, calling it a strategic investment in student wellbeing.

Acknowledging broader stakeholder support, Okpebholo highlighted the Vice-Chancellor, Victor Adetimirin, who donated a month’s salary toward university projects, saying it inspired the state government’s ₦2 billion grant.

The governor also emphasised private sector collaboration, urging corporate organisations and individuals to emulate these acts of generosity to strengthen Edo State’s development.

On healthcare infrastructure, Okpebholo reaffirmed support for the university’s new health centre to replace the existing sick bay, stressing its importance in providing quality healthcare to the university community.

The projects align with the state government’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritises education, health, and infrastructure for sustainable development. The governor also commissioned facilities at Auchi College a sporting arena, sponsored by Peter Omoh Dunia.

The event was attended by Senator Oshiomhole”,”Senator, Edo North”], founding visitor of the university, Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikhilor, Chief of Staff Yakubu Musa, former deputy governor Philip Shaibu, and other senior officials.
