The Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Political Mobilization and Engagement, Eugene Utubor, has revealed that the defection of Senator Neda Imasuen from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is imminent.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Utubor disclosed that he met with the senator on Tuesday night, where they discussed Imasuen’s growing inclination toward the APC. He noted that preparations are underway to integrate the senator into the party’s structure both at the state and national levels.
“The senator is clearly impressed with the achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki and is ready to support his administration’s vision,” Utubor stated. “His body language speaks volumes.”
Imasuen, who currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, has faced mounting pressure due to the internal crisis plaguing the Labour Party. The party has been battling prolonged leadership tussles and internal divisions, both in Edo State and nationally.
Although he has repeatedly dodged questions about his political future, his recent appearances alongside APC leaders in Edo suggest a shift in allegiance. His cordial relationship with key figures in the ruling party further fuels speculation about his defection.
Utubor emphasized the importance of unity in advancing the state’s development agenda. “We urge every well-meaning Edo citizen to support the governor. Senator Imasuen’s move to the APC will solidify our collective progress,” he said.
A formal announcement is expected in the coming days.
