Burna Boy Defends Kicking Sleeping Fans Out of Denver Concert

Grammy-winning singer says he only values “fans with money,” sparking online backlash

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has responded to criticisms over an incident at his recent concert in Denver, where he reportedly kicked a couple out for sleeping during his performance.

The episode attracted significant backlash after the female fan involved said the incident negatively affected her. During a recent livestream addressing the controversy, Burna Boy defended his actions, stating that he doesn’t beg for fans and only prioritises those with financial means.

“Did I tell you all to be my fans? I am only looking for fans who have money this period,” he said, sparking fresh debate online about his treatment of concertgoers. Several fans threatened to “cancel” the singer over his remarks.

This is not the first time Burna Boy has faced public scrutiny for his interactions with fans. He previously made headlines for kicking a male fan off the stage for attempting to hug him mid-performance. On another occasion, he asked a fan to leave for not dancing during his show. In both instances, he did not apologise.

The latest controversy adds to ongoing discussions about the balance between celebrity expectations and fan engagement, with social media divided over Burna Boy’s approach to audience management.
