Blackburn Rovers head coach Michael O’Neill praised Ryan Alebiosu after his side secured a vital win over Millwall FC on Saturday.
The first half ended goalless, but Millwall FC broke the deadlock nine minutes after the restart through Luke Kundle, assisted by Femi Azeez.
Blackburn Rovers, needing a win to stay clear of relegation, responded in the 80th minute when Alebiosu surged forward and set up Mathias Jørgensen to score. Alebiosu nearly added a goal himself a minute later, before Jørgensen struck again five minutes from time to seal the 2-1 victory.
O’Neill singled out Alebiosu for praise, noting: “I was pleased with the goals we scored and the movement on the side, particularly from Ryan (Alebiosu), who I thought was brilliant. Yuri [Ribeiro], on the other side, Mori [Ryoya Morishita], too, I thought we controlled the game well, we didn’t panic, and we got our rewards.”
The coach described the result as a crucial three points after a challenging week, including a midweek defeat. “We said to the players that we had to be up for the fight in the early stages of the game, and we certainly were against a very powerful Millwall team, who are in a great run of form,” he added.
With the victory, Blackburn Rovers rise to 19th place in the Championship standings, keeping their hopes alive as they approach the final eight league matches of the season.
