In a scathing critique shared on social media, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga declared that Atiku Abubakar’s political future is “bleak,” following the unraveling of his proposed coalition and the defection of key allies to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The post, made via X (formerly Twitter), targeted the coalition’s founding members including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and Labour Party’s 2023 vice presidential candidate Yusuf Baba-Ahmed.
“Atiku’s political future looks bleak. The coalition that he, El Rufai, Babachir, and new member Baba-Ahmed are cobbling together has disintegrated,” Onanuga wrote. “Potential allies, including former running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and defunct CPC members, are giving his leprous group a wide berth. Atiku is a loser again.”
The remarks came shortly after another presidential aide, Tunde Rahman, expressed similar sentiments. Rahman highlighted the defection of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and current Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC, describing it as “the biggest shocker ever” for Atiku.
“Isn’t Atiku’s coalition dead on arrival?” Rahman asked. “Indeed, the counting of PDP Governors crossing over to APC has begun.”
He argued that the PDP’s internal turmoil and the growing alignment of its governors with President Bola Tinubu have rendered Atiku’s 2027 aspirations futile.
