Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a legacy that continues to strengthen national unity and drive development.
Speaking on Friday at the swearing-in of the 2025 Batch B Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Mr. Moshood Olalekan, said the scheme remains a vital unifying platform that brings together young Nigerians across cultures, religions, and ethnic groups.
“The scheme has greatly strengthened our bonds of unity and fostered national development in the country. We will continue to ensure that the orientation camp remains conducive, secure, and adequately resourced for the training and welfare of corps members,” the governor said.
Adeleke noted that the service year provides opportunities for corps members to contribute to growth in education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development, and community service. He assured that his administration would continue to partner with security agencies to guarantee corps members’ safety in the state.
Earlier, the Osun NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Obim, disclosed that 1,420 corps members—comprising 679 males and 723 females—were deployed directly to the state. An additional 776 members, dislodged from Lagos State, joined the camp, bringing the total to 2,196 corps members.
Obim urged participants to strictly observe camp rules and regulations, stressing that discipline, obedience, and commitment are core values of the scheme.
“Any form of indiscipline such as truancy, drug abuse, hooliganism, and insubordination will not be tolerated and will attract appropriate sanctions. The scheme is designed to instill resilience, civic responsibility, leadership, and discipline in corps members,” he said.
He further advised the new corps members to be security conscious and avoid unnecessary risks during their service year.
