The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed confidence that it will emerge as a major political force in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, regardless of the absence of sitting governors within its ranks.
The party’s National Vice Chairman, Senator Nazif Gamawa, made the remarks on Monday during a press interaction in Bauchi. He cited former President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory over an incumbent president despite not having governors on his side as evidence that the ADC could achieve similar success.
“The people have already believed that a new political movement is the option, so ADC is the saviour. We are giving them one blow,” Gamawa said, emphasizing the party’s appeal as a fresh alternative to established political structures.
Gamawa reassured that the ADC faces no internal challenges and invited politicians dissatisfied with their current parties to join the movement. He stressed that unlike other parties, the ADC will not make aspirants’ nomination forms prohibitively expensive.
“We are not going to be like them. We will give a chance to every well-meaning Nigerian,” he said.
Having previously served as Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gamawa expressed confidence in the ADC leadership’s ability to reposition the party for electoral victory. He further promised that the ADC would remain fair and accountable to the masses if elected into power.
The party also urged Nigerians to register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the upcoming elections, warning that failure to vote responsibly would perpetuate bad leadership.
Gamawa lamented that Nigerian politics and governance have been hijacked by a few influential individuals and highlighted the ADC’s commitment to mentoring young people interested in leadership and political engagement.
