Nollywood comic actor and content creator Bamidele Tope Saint, popularly known as Okemesi, is currently in a coma following complications linked to medication he was given after a recent hospital discharge.
The development was disclosed on Monday night by fellow actor Jeff Owolewa, also known as Tony Montana, via an Instagram post.
This comes just days after Okemesi reportedly moved into a new apartment rented for him through public support. Two weeks earlier, the actor had appealed for financial assistance after battling an illness that left him homeless.
Providing an update, Jeff explained that Okemesi was hospitalised again after experiencing adverse reactions to drugs prescribed during his previous treatment.
According to him, the actor had been unusually weak over the weekend, sleeping for long hours and struggling with appetite before his condition worsened on Monday.
Jeff further revealed that attempts to secure treatment at other hospitals were unsuccessful, including a government hospital in Igodo, where they were reportedly told there was no available bed space. He said Okemesi was eventually taken back to the private hospital that initially treated him, where he was admitted and stabilised.
“Guys, Okemesi has been hospitalised again. He was sleeping all through Saturday and Sunday without having much appetite for food due to complications from the drugs that were given to him when he was discharged last week.
I rushed to his house very early on Monday to take him to hospital. He was rejected in different hospitals, including a government hospital in Igodo. The doctor refused to attend to him, saying there’s no bed space.
I had to take him back to the first private hospital that started his treatment. They admitted him and stabilised him. His breathing is improving. He has been in coma since Monday morning and has been placed on oxygen. We’re all praying that he gets back on track.”
Jeff urged Nigerians to keep the actor in their prayers and also appealed for financial support to assist with ongoing medical expenses.
As of the time of this report, no further medical update has been provided.
