The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Abdulrahman Muhammed has fixed its National Convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, to be held in Abuja.

The decision was reached on Monday during the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, chaired by Muhammed in his capacity as Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu serving as Secretary.

According to the party, the meeting reviewed the state of the PDP, discussed preparations for forthcoming congresses at various levels, and examined recent judicial developments affecting the party.

The NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, stressing that it remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the PDP. It added that the committee would continue to function as the National Working Committee (NWC) until a duly elected leadership emerges from the national convention.

As part of preparations for the convention, the NEC approved a nationwide congress timetable. Ward Congresses and Local Government Congresses are scheduled for February 2026, while State Congresses will hold in March 2026.

The committee directed the National Caretaker Committee to immediately issue detailed guidelines and formal notices for the congresses. It emphasised that all processes must strictly comply with the PDP Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations, and relevant judicial pronouncements.

The NEC also welcomed the recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, reiterating the party’s commitment to the independence of the judiciary. Members and organs of the party were urged to act in full compliance with all court rulings.

In preparation for the March 2026 national convention, the NEC ordered the immediate activation of convention sub-committees and the commencement of all necessary logistical and administrative arrangements. It further approved the extension of the tenure of state and zonal caretaker committees pending the conduct of congresses and the national convention.

The committee called on all party members to remain united, disciplined, and focused, stressing that collective party interest must take precedence over personal ambitions.

The NEC expressed confidence that the resolutions reached at the meeting would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability within the party, and reposition the PDP for future electoral contests.
