Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that captain Marquinhos will be sidelined after suffering a thigh injury, adding to the club’s mounting fitness concerns.
The French champions announced on Friday that the 31-year-old Brazilian defender will undergo treatment on a left thigh issue “over the next few weeks.” PSG did not state when the injury occurred, though Marquinhos played the entire 90 minutes in Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Marseille, where he scored an own goal.
The setback comes as coach Luis Enrique is already coping with injuries to Joao Neves, Desire Doue, and Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele. PSG declined to comment further when contacted by AFP.
Meanwhile, forward Bradley Barcola returned to training on Friday after missing the Marseille clash due to thigh fatigue. He is expected to be available for this weekend’s Ligue 1 fixture against Auxerre.
The champions then face a crucial run of games — hosting Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday before travelling to Lille on October 5 in Ligue 1 action.
