Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has given reasons behind his side’s 2–0 defeat to Celta Vigo in Sunday’s LaLiga clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Los Blancos fell to a second-half brace from Williot Swedberg, as the visitors stunned the home crowd with a composed and disciplined display.
Real Madrid’s problems were compounded by the red cards shown to Fran García and Álvaro Carreras, leaving the team severely stretched in the latter stages of the match.
Speaking during his post-match interview, Alonso admitted that his side fell short in key areas, while also revealing that Éder Militão’s injury disrupted his tactical plans.
“We’d planned the match after the Bilbao game to play at a good pace and put pressure on a good side,” Alonso said.
“We were lacking in some areas, and the injury disrupted our plans. We struggled to react; almost the best reaction was when we were down to ten men,” the Spanish tactician added.
The defeat marks another setback for Real Madrid in their domestic campaign as they now shift focus to Europe, with a crucial UEFA Champions League showdown against Manchester City on Wednesday.
Alonso is expected to rotate his squad and address his team’s defensive lapses ahead of the high-stakes European encounter.
