A 35-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire at the Los Angeles home of global music star Rihanna, prosecutors confirmed on Tuesday.
Authorities said the suspect, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, allegedly carried out the shooting on Sunday at the luxury residence the singer shares with rapper A$AP Rocky and their three children. The property is located in Los Angeles and serves as the family’s primary home.
Aerial footage taken after the incident revealed multiple bullet holes in the property’s gate, highlighting the severity of the attack. Police said an AR-15-style rifle was reportedly used in the shooting, which occurred in broad daylight while Rihanna was believed to be inside the home.
Prosecutors have filed several charges against Ortiz, including one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and one count of shooting at an inhabited vehicle. She has been ordered held on $1.875 million bail and instructed to have no contact with the Barbados-born singer.
Ortiz, who is from Florida, has a reported history of mental health issues and had previously been involuntarily committed, according to entertainment outlet TMZ. Reports also indicate she had previously lost custody of her child.
A Facebook page believed to belong to Ortiz reportedly contains several posts referencing celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Cardi B, with some posts appearing to target Rihanna directly. In one message, the suspect allegedly challenged the singer to speak to her directly, while another video claimed the star wanted to harm her.
Authorities have not confirmed a clear motive for the shooting. Ortiz is scheduled to make her next court appearance on March 25 as the investigation continues.
