Nyesom Wike has stated that he has not endorsed any candidate for the governorship or other political offices in Rivers State, aside from Bola Tinubu for the Presidency.

Speaking on Monday night at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, during a joint gathering of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike emphasised that his sole political commitment is to support Tinubu, a position he said has never been hidden.

Wike warned that the mistakes of past election cycles would not be repeated and stressed that no governor from any state can impose a candidate on Rivers State. He acknowledged the roles of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, in shaping current political developments.

The Minister urged members of the joint coalition to remain focused on working for the best interests of Rivers State, noting that only those genuinely committed to this goal would benefit. He cautioned against rushing endorsements and warned that personal ambitions could create internal divisions.

Wike highlighted that the group’s political strength is built on unity and commitment rather than financial influence. He warned that external forces were attempting to create discord due to the stakeholders’ successful collaboration.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they will do anything to ensure we are divided,” he said.

He also criticised individuals who, after benefiting from appointments facilitated by the group, have turned against its leadership, calling such behaviour a failure of character and warning that deceitful attempts to upstage others would fail.

On upcoming political activities, Wike dismissed rumours of private endorsements for elective offices, affirming that his public and private positions are consistent. He reiterated that the group has officially endorsed President Tinubu as its only recognised endorsement.

The Minister commended Council Chairmen, Rivers elders, and the leadership of both parties for coordinating the stakeholder meeting, noting that the absence of complaints about inclusiveness signified the success of the gathering.
