Wayne Rooney Says Manchester United Have Lost Their Soul

Rooney also pointed to turmoil behind the scenes, warning that staff cuts and instability are eroding United’s culture.

Wayne Rooney has launched a scathing attack on the current state of Manchester United, declaring that the club has “lost its soul” and that he has no faith in manager Ruben Amorim’s ability to turn fortunes around.

Amorim has collected just 34 points from 33 Premier League games since taking charge and is still waiting for back-to-back league victories. United, who slumped to 15th last season in their worst campaign for more than half a century, are now 14th after a 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.

Despite a heavy summer outlay on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, results have continued to disappoint, leaving supporters and former players alarmed.

Rooney, United’s all-time top scorer, said on his BBC podcast:
“I go to games expecting the team to lose. Ruben Amorim is my age, he’s got a future, but this is not Manchester United. Honestly, I’ve got no faith in it.”

The 39-year-old, who lifted five Premier League titles and the Champions League at Old Trafford, said the club lacks identity, leadership and hunger.
“I don’t see players fighting, I don’t see desire to win. The soul has gone. The club needs a new engine, a new lease of life. Some players don’t deserve to wear that shirt and it hurts.”

Rooney also pointed to turmoil behind the scenes, warning that staff cuts and instability are eroding United’s culture.
“The culture has gone. I see staff walking out of jobs. I’ve got two kids in the academy and I hope this doesn’t affect them. But what I’m seeing at that football club is not Manchester United.”

His comments echo growing discontent among supporters as United face another turbulent season.
