Two Taraba State senators, Isa Shuaibu Lau and Haruna Manu, formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, intensifying political realignment in the state following Governor Agbu Kefas’ recent defection to the ruling party.

The senators announced their decisions in separate letters read on the Senate floor, citing internal party challenges, consultations with constituents, and alignment with APC’s developmental agenda as reasons for their moves.

Senator Lau said his decision was driven by growing concerns over the PDP’s internal direction, adding that the APC better reflected his political aspirations and those of his constituents.

Similarly, Senator Manu stated that extensive consultations with stakeholders and careful assessment of prevailing political realities informed his defection. He noted that remaining in the PDP would no longer serve his constituents effectively.

Presiding officer Senate President Godswill Akpabio acknowledged the defections after the letters were read.

The defections come weeks after Governor Kefas left the PDP for the APC, citing alignment with the federal government and the need to accelerate development. With these latest moves, the APC has strengthened its foothold in Taraba, while the PDP faces continued internal challenges and high-profile exits.
