Operations on the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) have resumed after a fire disrupted activities earlier this week in the Bodo community of Gokana Local Government Area (LGA), Rivers State. The fire, which broke out on Monday night along a section of the TNP on the Bodo-Bonny road, caused significant concern due to towering flames that lit up the night sky, raising fears of environmental damage and oil supply disruptions.
The Trans-Niger Pipeline is a crucial infrastructure that transports crude oil to the Bonny export terminal in Rivers State, making it a key component of Nigeria’s oil exportation network. Following the explosion, operations were temporarily halted as authorities conducted assessments of the damage and the situation.
On Wednesday, Tony Okonedo, spokesperson for Renaissance Group, confirmed that operations had resumed, following the temporary suspension. “Operations have resumed. We previously suspended operations to respond to a third-party interference but now we have resumed,” Okonedo said in a statement.
The incident comes amid rising political tensions in Rivers State, adding complexity to an already delicate situation. The resumption of operations is expected to stabilize oil transport activities, though the incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by critical infrastructure in the region.
